How to Save Money and Time When Organizing

Friday morning, while drinking my coffee, I watched a couple of episodes of “Help, I Wrecked My House” on HGTV, and it inspired me to make this post.

In one episode, the husband wanted to save money and renovate parts of the home himself. The problem was he’s not a builder, contractor, or electrician, and did not have a plan. He didn’t even take the time to seek the information on how to complete the project, hence, leaving projects incomplete. The couple, who have 3 children, have had parts of their home unfinished for YEARS!

The next episode was about a couple that thought buying a fixer upper would be nice to work on, but kept doing patch jobs until they can get to it because life got in the way. Projects they thought would take 6 months have not been finished and it is 18 months later.

Once Jasmine Roth and her team took over the projects on the show, both couples ended up with a beautiful home that is safe and exactly what the family wanted and needed for their lifestyle.

Both couples wrote into the show because:

  1. They have wasted money - My mother always said, “Lo barato te sale caro”, meaning cheap is expensive. The money you think you will save by not hiring a professional, ends up costing you more in the long run by avoiding larger, future costs from problems that can build up.

  2. They have wasted time - They have lost moments with children and family because they can’t hang out in their home, or have people over.

  3. They were stressed - You eliminate the stress of feeling it will never get completed by allowing a professional to do what they do best. Your home is supposed to be your sanctuary, let's get it done today!

So how does this relate to you and me? Well, life does get in the way and a project you think you can finish on Saturday, ends up taking every Saturday for the next month; the hundreds of dollars you spent on purchasing organizing items did not solve the problem; and organizing one area created a problem in another area.

Organization is not just about changing hangers, buying boxes or bins, and having items folded just so. It is about an entire system that works for you and your home’s needs, your lifestyle, and the specific challenges your home may have. Also, hiring a Professional Organizer, moi, would be less expensive and less time consuming for you in the long run because I can see the bigger picture and complete the project in a timely manner.
